A Sri Lankan Tamil couple was arrested by the Tirupur city police for obtaining Indian passports and ration card by forging documents, the Times of India reported.

Police sources said that the couple and their two children planned to go to Sri Lanka from Madurai airport in April 2016.

However, the immigration officials managed to trace the identity of the couple and informed the ministry of external affairs who conducted a detailed inquiry and finally lodged a police complaint.

The arrested couple was identified as K Thiyagarajan, 29, and T Menaka, 27, both hailing from GN Balan Nagar at Neruperichal in Tirupur. The couple has a son and a daughter. Their daughter studies in a private school and stays in a hostel. She got permission from the judicial magistrate court to keep her infant under her care in the jail.
