Two arrested for smuggling gold in fishing boat

Sri Lanka Navy has arrested two persons who were attempting to smuggle gold biscuits weighing 5.5 kilograms to India using a fishing boat.

The arrest was made in seas 8 nautical miles north of Kankesanthurai last night (30) while the suspects were attempting to transport the stock of gold in a fishing boat, disguising themselves as fishermen.

On receipt of intelligence by naval personnel attached to SLNS Uththara located in Kankesanthurai in Northern Naval Command, the interception was carried by the officers and sailors onboard P 464 Fast Attack Craft who managed to recover the stock of gold. 

The arrested persons along with the 55 gold biscuits were handed over to the Jaffna Customs Officials for further investigations, SLN media unit said.
