MP Wimal Weerawansa’s brother Sarath Weerawansa, who was arrested on charges of misusing state property, has been further remanded after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) had filed a case against the defendant accusing him of misusing a state vehicle under the Offences Against Public Property Act.

He was arrested on September 01 by the FCID.

When the case was taken up today (07), the FCID informed court that further investigations into the incident are ongoing and requested that the suspect remain in remand custody until the inquiry is concluded.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne then ordered that Sarath Weerawansa be further till September 21.
