Unite and live together as Sri Lankans - Kiriella

Sri Lanka has raised fears of attempts to instigate ethnic clashes once again in the country.

Highways and Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella said those in the opposition trying to block a new Constitution are attempting to create instability and instigate ethnic clashes.

“When all parties in Parliament are attempting to resolve the issues there are those attempting to scuttle the process,” he said.

The minister urged all parties to create an environment where all communities can live together as Sri Lankans.

Kiriella said the country can develop only if there is peace among all communities.

Sri Lanka is rebuilding after a decades-long war ended in May 2009 following the defeat of the Tamil Tiger rebels.
