Colombo - Ratnapura main road has been blocked at Eheliyagoda town due to a protest staged by estate workers, Ada Derana reporter said.

A group of over hundred plantation workers are protesting to press their demand for a daily wage of Rs, 1000.

The estate owners however have deemed it high, citing the current “risk-prone” business environment, it was reported.

Labour Minister W.D.J. Senevirathna however informed the Parliament yesterday that trade unions  agreed to increase daily wage of estate workers from Rs 620 to 730.
