Three arrested for harvesting sea cucumbers

Sri Lanka Navy personnel have arrested three local fishermen engaged in illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers in the seas North of Kurikattuvan.
 
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gotaimbara located in Pungudutivu in the Northern Naval Command arrested the 3 persons yesterday (20) along with a dinghy, 4 sea cucumbers, 3 pair of diving fins and 4 diving masks.
 
The arrested persons and items were handed over to the Department of Fisheries Aquatic Resources, Jaffna for further investigations.
 
Further, on receipt of information, naval personnel attached to SLNS Mahanaga located in Panama in the South Eastern Naval Command, apprehended a 2,000 m long monofilament fishing net in the lagoon area of Charalakadei on the same day. 
 
The apprehended fishing net was produced to the Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for onward investigations.
