The Deputy Speaker has informed Parliament that the Supreme Court has deliberated the VAT (Amendment) Bill is in accordance with the constitution of Sri Lanka, Ada Derana reporter said.

The observation was made by Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala during today’s Parliament session.

The Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill was presented to the Cabinet on 13 September.

The Supreme Court earlier on July 11 issued an interim order suspending the increase of VAT from 11% to 15%, after considering a petition filed challenging the tax hike.
