Eleven suspects arrested over their alleged connection to the ‘Ava Group’ – a criminal gang operating in Jaffna, have been granted bail by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
Acts of violence had reportedly increased recently in Jaffna suburbs such as Manipay, Kopay and Chunnakam by the sword-wielding Ava Group, believed to be inspired by South Indian films.
Following investigations carried out by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID), these 11 suspects were arrested and remanded after being produced at court.
When the case was taken up today, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered that the suspects be released on bail.
