The private bus unions and several railway unions will resort to an islandwide strike from midnight 01 December.

The strike will be staged against the budget proposal to increase traffic fines, General Secretary of the All Island Private Bus Owners Association Anjana Priyanjith said.

However, steps have also been taken to temporarily cancel the leave of drivers, conductors, and technical staff of the SLTB for a week starting from today, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said. The Ministry has also made arrangements to deploy extra SLTB bus, and train services for the convenience of the passengers.

Accordingly, the fleet of SLTB buses will be increased up to 6,000 from current the number of 5,250 and the service of drivers and conductors who are on leave will also be obtained.
