President to inquire into conduct of the IGP

December 1, 2016   03:57 pm

President Maithripala Sirisena has requested all who engage in protests and strikes to resolve their issues through discussions without inconveniencing the public.

The observation was made while he was addressing the Parliament this afternoon (01). The President added that he would too personally intervene to resolve matters if discussions with the relevant ministers failed.

President Sirisena also went on to say he would enquire the IGP about his response to a phone call during a meeting held in Ratnapura recently.

In a video of the incident, the IGP was heard promising to the person on the other end who he addressed as ‘sir’, a certain individual would not be arrested by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) unless he orders to do so.
