SLTB busses attacked; strike causes inconvenience to public

The Sri Lanka Transport Board has requested police protection for busses in operation today as several busses have been attacked.

 

Several reports have been received of SLTB busses being pelted with stones for operating today in the backdrop of a bus and three-wheeler strike in opposition to the proposed increase of the minimum fine for traffic offences.

 

Police said they have received a report of one SLTB bus being pelted with stones by a group of unidentified individuals that arrived in a three-wheeler.

 

Also two busses have been attacked in Trincomalee, police said.

 

Meanwhile the strike action launched by the private bus operators today have stranded many commuters causing inconvenience to the public.
