AG files fresh indictment against Basil

The Attorney General today filed a fresh indictment against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa for alleged misappropriation of Divi Naguma funds.

The former Minister of Economic Development and former Director General of the Divi Neguma Department, Kithsiri Ranawaka, were indicted for allegedly using Divi Naguma funds for the printing of ‘Litha’ (almanacs) for distribution among Divi Neguma families.

The AG yesterday withdrew the indictments filed against Basil Rajapaksa and Ranawaka in the case against them for allegedly misappropriating funds of the Divi Neguma Department.

They were discharged by the Colombo High Court afterwards.

The former minister and former Divi Neguma Department DG had been arrested by the police on April 22, in connection with this charge.
