UPDATE: Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the university students engaged in a protest march blocking the road at the Kollupitiya Junction.

Severe traffic congestion has been reported in the Kollupitiya area due to a protest being staged by university students.

The protest, organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation based on several demands, marched through the Town Hall area in Colombo, which had resulted in traffic congestion throughout that area and the closure of several roads.
