One person was killed while another 7 individuals were wounded following a traffic accident near the 66km Post on the Southern Expressway.

Police said that a container lorry had crashed into the back of a van, which had stalled on the roadside due a technical snag while traveling from Kadawatha to Godagama.

The lorry had subsequently broken through the guard rail of the expressway and toppled down a small precipice.

One of the passengers of the van, a 37-year-old from Panadura, was killed instantly while 6 injured were admitted to the Elpitiya Hospital and the other to the Karapitiya Hospital.

The driver of the lorry has been arrested while police are conducting further investigations.
