According to the terms of the new Constitution, the President would lose the authority he possessed on the Local Government bodies, MP Vidura Wickremanayake says.
He expressed this view while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo on Monday.
“Accordingly, the administrative authority would be transferred to the Chief Ministers,” he said.
He also went on to say with the context of the proposed Constitution, government’s assurance that the ‘united state would not be divided’ would only be limited to words.
Wickremanayake also questioned the reasons as to why the government spent money on the process of drafting a new Constitution, if the President does not desire to go for a referendum.
