Live lobsters worth Rs.100,000 seized in Colpitty

Live lobsters worth over Rs.100,000 were seized from a Chinese restaurant in Colpitty, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development said.


According to the Ministry, fishing or possessing lobsters have been banned during February-March period which is termed as its breeding season.


The stock of live lobsters was seized during a raid carried out on Tuesday morning. The officials have also reportedly seized several kilos of sea cucumbers from the restaurant.


The Chinese nationals who were operating the restaurant are in custody and they will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
