Ready to consider NFF request to leave UPFA - Amaraweera

February 23, 2017   05:30 pm

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera says that the National Freedom Front (NFF) led by MP Wimal Weerawansa has not made a written request to leave the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) as of yet.

Responding to a question raised in Parliament today (23), the Minister said that the party is prepared to consider any such request made to become independent.

He stated that if anyone who was elected to Parliament after contesting under the UPFA wishes to sit independently, they should make the respective request to the party and not the Speaker.

The NFF, which is a coalition partner of the UPFA, had recently sought the permission of the Speaker of Parliament to sit independently.
