EP Councilor hospitalized following assault

An Eastern Provincial Councilor has been hospitalized after he was attacked by an angry mob following a road accident in Oddamavadi, Batticaloa on Monday.

Councilor Nagalingam Thiraviyam alias Jeyam was assaulted after his van knocked down a motorcycle injuring its rider, police said.

The incident erupted following an argument between the Councilor and a group of area residents, it was reported.

Jeyam has been admitted to the Batticaloa hospital, while the motorcyclist was admitted to the Valaichchenai hospital for treatments.
