Wimal seeks bail considering his daughter’s medical condition

A Counsel appearing on behalf of MP Wimal Weerawansa on Friday filed a bail application with the Fort Magistrate’s Court, Ada Derana report said.
The Counsel requested the Magistrate to grant bail for Weerawansa considering the medical condition of his client’s daughter who is undergoing treatment at a state hospital. The child was hospitalized due to depression caused by the arrest of her father, the Counsel pointed out.
However, the Magistrate has said the bail application will be taken into consideration on 3 April.
Earlier, the Colombo High Court also rejected a bail application filed by MP Weerawansa. The former Housing Minister, who is currently in prison on allegations of misusing state vehicles, is also continuing a hunger strike for the third day, which he commenced urging for his release.
Weerawansa was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) on January 10 after he arrived to give a statement pertaining to allegations of misusing state vehicles. He has been accused of misusing several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat Office, during his tenure as the Minister of Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, and thereby causing losses to the tune of Rs 41 million to the government.
