The effort of NFF leader MP Wimal Weerawansa by holding a hunger strike is not to pose a challenge to the judiciary, the National Freedom Front (NFF) says.
National Freedom Front (NFF) Deputy Leader Jayantha Samaraweera expressed this view while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo on Sunday.
“His effort is not to pressurize the judiciary, but to put a full stop in the interference of the government in court decisions,” he added.
Samaraweera also went on to say Weerawansa needed a new strategy to defeat the ‘political witch hunt’ against the ‘patriot politicians’ which has been launched by a coalition led by Sirisena-Wickremesinghe- Sampanthan and Anura.
He pointed out the arrest of Weerawansa represents the first stage of ‘political witch hunt’ against politicians who raise their voice over issues relating to new Constitution, selling of country’s resources and privatization of state institutions.
