Protests in Bopitiya over garbage dumping

A protest has broken out against the dumping of waste held by the Colombo Municipal council in areas such as Wattala, Pamunugama and Bopitiya. 

Due to turbulent situation at present a decision was made to dump a total of 300 metric tonnes of waste within a period of two weeks, on a public property in Bopitiya. 

Ada Derana reporters stated that residents around the selected property, have engaged in a protest which included the blocking of the road near the Dalathura bridge. 

A senior police officer in charge of Bopitiya did arrive at the scene and explain the situation, however the residents in the area, did engage in a relentless protest, sources reveal.
