More incentives to be provided to the labour force

In honour of International Labour Day, the government has made arrangements to provide more incentives to the working force, Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations, W. D. J. Seneviratne states.
According to the Minister, the existing compensation of Rs.525,000 for injuries at the workplace would be increased to Rs.1,050,000.
Additionally, in an effort to eliminate child labour, a decision has been made to increase the maximum age up to which an individual is considered a “child” from 14 to 16.
The Minister stated that the maternity leave granted in the private sector would also be revised.
