Two arrested with live grenades and firearms

An individual carrying a live grenade was arrested near the railway crossing gate at Dahaiyagama, Anuradhapura.

Police stated that a raid was conducted based on a tip received by the Anuradhapura Police, during which the arrest was made.

The arrestee is 29-year-old individual who is a resident of the same area.

The arrestee is scheduled to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate Court today (27).

Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, another individual carrying firearms has been arrested in Heenatiyana, Minuwangoda.

Police stated that a raid was conducted based on a tip received by the Law Enforcement Unit of Negombo, after which the suspect was arrested.

A stash of firearms and rounds including 02 T-56 assault rifles and 263 rounds, 01 live grenade, and 25 rifle rounds was taken into police custody during the raid.

The arrestee is said to be a resident of Minuwangoda.

Information on the individual who provided the arrestee with the weapons has been retrieved, and the Law Enforcement Unit of Meegamuwa and Katunayake Police are conducting more investigations in order to make the arrest of this individual.
