Remanded protesters released on bail

The 8 university students including a monk that were remanded for unlawful protest have been released on bail.

Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lal Bandara ruled that the 8 students be released on bail worth Rs. 100,000 each, Ada Derana court correspondent, K. S. Udaya Kumar reported.

The group was arrested on charges of unlawful protest and destruction of public property, after they engaged in a demonstration despite a court order issued against it.

The eight were remanded until today (19) after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lal Bandara.
