A suspect allegedly connected to multiple criminal activities has been arrested at a casino in Kollupitiya with a large number of counterfeit currency notes.

Police said that the suspect was arrested following a complaint made by the manager of the establishment based on a suspicion after the former had handed over 75 notes of the Rs 1,000 denomination to gamble.

It was later confirmed that the currency notes provided by the suspect were in fact forged and preliminary inquiries had revealed that he is allegedly connected to multiple crimes.

Police said that cases have been filed against the suspect over two vehicle thefts in Wellawatte, credit card fraud and several other crimes.

The arrested suspect, a 38-year-old from Passara, is to be handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations, a police release said.
