Mahindananda released on bail

PM Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is being indicted on three charges including the misuse of Rs. 3.9 million worth of funds belonging to the Sri Lanka Independent Estate Workers’ Congress, has been granted bail by the Colombo High Court.
When the case was called in today (22), the Colombo High Court judge, Sampath Wijeratne granted bail of two sureties, each worth Rs. 2 million, our court correspondent verified.
The High Court judge also ordered Mahindananda to hand over his passport to the custody of the Court.
The State Attorney who appeared at court today (22) on behalf of the parliamentarian stated that preliminary objections needed to be presented.
Accordingly, the judge ordered the State Attorney to present the preliminary objections before June 27.
