The cabinet approved a new Inland Revenue Act that will even impose a tax on the money that falls into the donation boxes of religious institutions, Organizer of the National Freedom Front, MP Jayantha Samaraweera says.
He stated this at a press conference held today (25).
The MP stated that the government had intentionally contributed towards the inactiveness of the Department of Inland Revenue, and was now putting a great tax strain on the public by attempting to privatize the Department.
He added that the government would attempt to gain the approval of the Parliament one way or another.
According to the new Inland Revenue Act, anyone earning a single rupee above Rs. 500,000 would incur a tax ranging between 4 and 24 percent, MP Jayantha Samaraweera stated.
