Brig. Deshapriya remanded till end of May

Brigadier Anura Deshapriya Gunawardena, who was arrested earlier today (25) in connection with the Rathupaswala shooting, has been remanded till May 31, Ada Derana reporter said.

The Brigadier was remanded after appearing before the Gampaha Magistrate, D. A. Ruwanpathirana.

He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), for allegedly ordering troops to open fire on protesters demanding clean water in Rathupaswala, five years back.

Police spokesperson DIG Priyantha Jayakody told Ada Derana reporters that the arrest was made when the Brigadier arrived at the CID to give a statement.
