People living near Nilwala River Basin told to evacuate

People living in close proximity to the Nilwala River basin area in Matara are requested to evacuate to safer places due to the breaching of river bunds, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

Resident of all villages close to the Nilwala Basin including Godagama, Hiththatiya, Thudawa, Malimbada, Siripanagoda, Madurudoowa, Paragahathota and Kaddoowa have been asked to evacuate to safer areas due to flood risk.
