All flood-victim camps will be monitored thoroughly, the Epidemiology Unit says.
Dr. Samitha Ginige attached to the Epidemiology Unit stated that the monitoring would be conducted by regional infectious disease specialists.
Dr. Ginige added that special clinics would be conducted for flood-hit victims seeking refuge in temporary camps, and stated that no high-risk disease conditions had been reported so far.
He further said that dengue prevention, and provision of antibiotics to those exposed to mud and contaminated water were being conducted presently.
Meanwhile, about 100 doctors affiliated with the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) have volunteered to provide medical services in flood-hit districts.
Editor of the GMOA, Dr. Nalin de Herath confirmed that said doctors had already commenced performing medical services at clinics established around flood-victim camps.
