Three bodies recovered after raft topples in Matara

Three members of the same family including a teenager have drowned after a raft toppled in Aththudawa, Matara.

Sri Lanka Navy said that a father (38), his wife (30) and their 14-year-old son were reported missing following the incident earlier today (01).

However, the three bodies have been recovered, a short while ago, and are currently placed at the Matara General Hospital. 

Navy spokesman Lieutenant Commander Chaminda Walakuluge stated that they had used a makeshift raft to traverse the flood waters which were around 7 feet high in the Aththudawa area at the time. 

Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Navy advises individual affected by the floods not to return to their inundated homes using small boats or rafts.
