Extortion: two arrested over ransom demands

Two individuals have been arrested in Mirigama for allegedly attempting to demand ransom.

Police stated that the pair had made a phone call to a jewelry store located along the Giriulla Road in Mirigama, and demanded that they hand over Rs. 500,000 in cash. Following this, the owner of the store proceeded to file a complaint with the Mirigama Police.

After conducting an investigation into the incident, Police succeeded in arresting the perpetrators when they arrived at the predestined location where the exchange of money was due to take place.

The arrestees are said to be residents of Loluwagoda, Gurugodella, thirty-four and forty-seven-years of age.

Police stated that the two suspects are due to be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate’s Court today (17).
