The National Three-Wheeler Association of Self-Employed Professionals says that the minimum three-wheeler fare for the first kilometer will be increased by Rs 10 with effect from July 10, 2017.
The President of the association, Sunil Jayawardena, stated that the prices of three-wheeler spare parts have currently increased and that as a result of this professional three-wheeler drivers are facing severe hardships.
He stated that due this the fare for the first kilometer will be increased by Rs 10 to Rs 60 in order to provide a better transport service to commuters and that, however the charge for the second kilometer and onwards will remain at Rs 40.
Mr Jayawardena further stated that the traffic congestion within the Western Province has increased due to the three-wheelers entering Colombo from other provinces, three-wheelers operated using illegally obtained licenses or traffic tickets and non-professional drivers.
