The Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development, Sagala Ratnayake has instructed the Police to take legal action against individuals who obstruct the regular operation of trains.
Sources confirmed that the Railway Driver Assistants’ Union had commenced a strike at 12.00 am in the early hours today (22).
Although locomotive operating engineers assured that the strike would not affect the operation of trains, latest reports indicate that certain groups are posing a hindrance to the regular functioning of trains.
The Secretary to the Prime Minister, S. B. Ekanayake had accordingly informed Minister Sagala Ratnayake of this matter, who then proceeded to instruct the Police to take legal action against perpetrators responsible.
