A bill banning the process of bottom trawling within Sri Lankan maritime boundary will be presented to the parliament, as decided upon by the Ministry of Fisheries.
Minister of Fisheries, Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the bill will be presented to the parliament by the 6 of next month (July).
Environmentalists have constantly raised the issues that arise through unsustainable fishing practices, such as bottom trawling and other practices, which will be banned if the bill is passed.
The unsustainable fishing practices have caused the depletion of fish populations and species within the boundary.
