Police Media Spokesperson, Superintendent Ruwan Gunasekara stated that D.K.P. Dassanayake was arrested based on evidence presented both scientifically and electronically.

He further added that if anyone wanted to challenge the decision made regarding the former Navy Media Spokesperson, they were free to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission in Sri Lanka.

The statements were brought out during a media briefing held today (16).

D.K.P. Dassanayke has been remanded till the 19 of July, over the abduction and disappearance of 11 young girls in the years 2008 and 2009.

Gunasekara added that seven other individuals linked to the case have been arrested, out of which all were navy personnel. He revealed that the motif behind the abductions and disappearances had been money.

Gunasekara further stated that this was not an act carried out by the Navy as a whole, but due to certain navy personnel abusing the power vested upon them.

He went onto say that the abducted have been confirmed as non-terrorists and that the investigation process, which has deemed quite complicated, is still being carried out.
