Businessman fails to pay elec. bill, assaults electrician in Angoda

An employee of the Sri Jayawardenepura regional electrical engineers’ office has been assaulted upon attempting to disconnect power supply to a business institution in the region.
Reports revealed that the assault had been inflicted when a group of officials went to disconnect power to a business institution near the Ambatale junction in Angoda, as the institution had failed to pay the electricity bill.
A heated exchange of words had taken place between the owner of the business and the officials upon their arrival at the scene.
After the officials disconnected the power supply, the owner had attacked one of the officials with an iron pole.
Police state that the injured official is currently receiving treatment at the Angoda Hospital.
In response to an inquiry made by Ada Derana, the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Angoda Police Station stated that the owner who perpetrated the assault had fled the area, and added an operation had been launched to locate and arrest the suspect.
Assistant Electrical Engineer Gunasiri Nupahewa stated that the Sri Jayawardenepura regional electrical engineers’ office had decided to refrain from carrying out their duties during the course of today (19), in protest of this act of violence against their colleague.
