The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today charged that the proposed new Inland Revenue Act has been prepared according to the needs of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and that therefore it should be defeated.
The party said that it is prepared to take every possible action to defeat the bill.
“The new Inland Revenue Act has been prepared by the International Monetary Fund and presented for approval by the Sri Lankan Parliament,” JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told reporters in Colombo.
He stated that the Governor of the Central Bank has previously stated that this act needs to be approved in order to obtain the second loan disbursement from the IMF.
It is clear that this act was formulated according to the needs of the IMF, Dissanayake charged, adding that officials of Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department, trade unions, tax payers or audit firms were consulted on this. “Not even a discussion has been held with them,” he said.
