Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan stated that around 180 acres of land belonging to civil residents of Kepapilaw in Mullativu were still under the custody of the Security Forces.
Accordingly, Sampanthan had requested that the aforementioned acres of land be transferred back to their rightful owners without further delay.
He made the request yesterday (26) during a special meeting at the Office of the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D. M. Swaminathan.
At the meeting, Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, Swaminathan had outlined the method through which resettlements of Kepapilaw would be conducted.
Heads of Security Forces who attended the meeting had then proceeded to state that the Security Forces were amidst the process of retreating from the relevant lands gradually.
Regardless, a group of residents of Kepapilaw are continuously carrying out a protest fast, demanding that their lands be returned to them.
