The Colombo Additional Magistrate, Justice Jeyaram Trosky, has ordered that the investigations into the murder of Wassim Thajudeen be expedited.

Ada Derana court correspondent reported that the order had been directed to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by Justice Trosky earlier today (27).

When the relevant case was taken up by the Magistrate’s Court today (27), the victimized party’s counsels had pointed out that the Colombo Magistrate’s Court had already made a ruling on the former Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), Dr. Ananda Samarasekara, who conducted the post-mortem examination of Thajudeen’s remains.

The Court had accordingly ruled that the post-mortem examination had been conducted with negligence.

The counsels had further pointed out that the investigation launched by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) had also concluded that Dr. Samarasekara was to blame, and accordingly questioned as to why he had not been arrested.

Follwing this, the counsel appearing on behalf of the SLMC presented a report to the Court and stated that Dr. Ananda Samrasekara had been investigated over five accusations, out of which, he had been found to be guilty of three.

She proceeded to state that the former JMO had consequently been issued a three-month suspension from the medical service.

Deputy Solicitor-General, Dilan Ratnayake, who appeared on behalf of the CID, stated before the Court that they were in the process of assessing SLMC’s report, and added that they would arrive at a decision after the assessment was concluded.

He also mentioned that a series of photographs capturing the trail of vehicles behind Thajudeen’s vehicle had come to light, and stated that they had also decided to submit the photographs to the Government Analyst for further inspection.

He also added that investigations were still being carried out into certain telephone conversations in connection with the incident.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate, Justice Trosky, declared that investigations of the case should not be delayed, and accordingly instructed the CID to accelerate the process.

The case will be taken up for hearing once again a month from today (27), on August 27.

The Ada Derana court correspondent reported that the Additional Magistrate had also ordered that a progress report on the investigations be submitted to the Court on the aforementioned date.
