Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that the country was now becoming increasingly aware of the reality, given the course of action followed by the Police yesterday, the involvement of the Armed Forces, disruption of strike actions, use of force on university students, and the sale of national treasures.
The Government is trying to sell off the country’s most-valued treasures, and there is a suspicion as to whether the Government is intentionally following this particular course of action with the goal of creating a dictatorship, he said.
He added that it was evident to the entire nation that there were internal disputes within the Government.
In response to a question raised by a reporter regarding Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s involvement in the Central Bank’s alleged bond scandal, the former President said: we’re waiting to see what the Government will do to Ravi.
Adding on, he also said that a portion of the country was of the belief that it was not solely Ravi Karunanayake’s fault, and that accordingly, the entire Government must accept responsibility.
