State intelligence officer nabbed with gold concealed in knee guard

A state intelligence officer attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has been arrested while attempting to smuggle out gold worth Rs 9.1 million concealed in his knee guard.
Sri Lanka Customs media spokesman Sunil Jayarathne said that the Intelligence officer was caught with 2kgs of gold jewellery concealed in his knee guard valued at Rs 9,148,815 while attempting to leave the arrival area of BIA.
The gold jewellery in question has been brought by a passenger who had arrived by flight UL 309 from Singapore at 9.15 pm last night and who is missing, he said.
