PTI reports that a tech-savvy, ISIS sympathizing “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” was in contact with several young men from Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh in an attempt to brainwash and recruit them to conduct terrorist activities.

In a broadcast via the Islamic State Amaq propaganda agency, the IS claimed that Abu Yusuf al- Hindi along with Australian Abu Fahad were killed whilst engaging a group of apostles from the “Kurdistan Workers’ Party” (PKK) in Raqq, Syria. SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based monitoring firm reports his attack was reportedly aimed to ‘wound and maim’ members of the PKK to increase the concentration of the terrorist activists operating in the Syrian region. ISIS broadcasts confirm that Al-Hindi along with enigmatic Australian activist Abu Fahad was killed during the confrontation.

30-year old Abu Yusuf al- Hindi has been labeled as leader and Head recruiter for the IS in the Indian region by the US state department. Being an Indian by birth, Al-Hindi went by several aliases such as Mohammed Shafi Armar, “Chhote Maula” and “Anjan Bhai”. Notably Al-Hindi was named as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” by the US in June, becoming the first Indian leader of the outfit against whom America has imposed sanctions upon.

Over the years Al- Hindi cultivated a toxic group of ISIS sympathizers who were involved in plotting several terrorist attacks in India. Sources confirm that his group was involved in illegally procuring weapons and identifying locations for ISIS training camps.

Increased search operations prompted Al-Hindi to flee to Pakistan along with his elder brother, after a crackdown on Indian Majahideen cadres. Several reports were circulated of him being killed in a drone attack or a crackdown of allied forces. US intelligence sources confirm however that his name repetitively was mentioned in intercepted ISIS communication lines and voice-cuts.

Reports confirm that Al-Hindi was attempting to expand his operation by contacting young men living in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh via Facebook and other personal messaging services. Reportedly attempts had been made to brainwash young men to join his ISIS sympathizing cause.
