Convener of the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee, Ryan Jayalath has been further remanded by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.

He was accused of forcefully entering the Health Ministry and destroying public property after an anti-SAITM protest march on June 22.

He accordingly surrendered to the court by means of an attorney last Friday (18), whereupon he was placed under remand custody until today (23).

When the relevant case was taken up by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, Maligakanda Chief Magistrate Dulani S. Serasinghe had further remanded Jayalath till August 25, according to the Ada Derana court correspondent.

Meanwhile, the Anti-SAITM ‘Janapavura’ Organization requested the public to light a lamp in front of each and every house on August 30, in protest of SAITM.

National Trade Union Centre’s Convener Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that he hoped everyone would pledge their support.
