Parliament to debate upon LG Elections Act today

The Parliament is scheduled to take up the draft of the Local Government Elections Act for debate today (24).
Reports indicate that the draft will also be voted upon following the debate.
The Joint Opposition (JO) however stated that the Government was poised to introduce amendments to the draft.
Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena stated that although the Government had promised to present the amendments to the Parliament during the course of yesterday (23), they had not done so.
Gunawardena accordingly said that the relevant amendments would be carefully considered today (24) before deciding whether or not to pledge support for the new draft.
