A pindapatha (alms begging) tour organized by several Buddhist clergy members to raise funds in aid of former President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and former Director of the TRC Anusha Palpita who were convicted over the ‘sil redi’ case began earlier today (15).

The tour began at the Sambuddhaloka Viharaya on Lotus road amidst the chanting of ‘seth pirith’ by a large congregation if Buddhist monks. Several members of parliament and other political individuals were present at the event.

Ven Medagoda Abayathissa thero stated that the tour was organized to ensure that the service provided by public servants does not go unrecognized. He also stated that the organizers of the tour aimed to enlighten the public on the injustice that was committed against two long standing public servants.

It has been reported that the ‘pindapatha tour’ will continue for two more days and that all funds will be allocated towards the protection of the victims of the ‘sil redi’ verdict.
