51 year old nabbed with precious metals at BIA

The Customs Narcotic Control unit of the Bandaranaike International Airport was able to apprehend a 51 year old Sri Lankan who was attempting to smuggle several high value precious metals into the country earlier today (19). 

Accordingly, 2 nos. of Palladium plates weighing 499.09 grams valued at Rs.1,447,361.00 and 5 grams of Gold sovereign valued at Rs. 34,342 with a total value of Rs. 1,991,425.00 was confiscated by BIA customs Officials. 

BIA officials state that the metals were hidden within the luggage of the suspect and that he had arrived from Hong Kong at 4.30am today (19) and that he is a resident of Colombo. 

The perpetrator is currently being questioned by BIA officials and the metals were detected at the Green Channel by Thisara Weerasinghe, Jude Fernando and A.D.Nilanga. The suspect has been charged with the offence of non-declaration.
