Minister of Regional Development Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka stated that he was not able to obtain a VISA to travel with President Maithripala Sirisena to attend the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations, due to war crimes committed by several Sri Lankan Military officials.
Speaking to the media following an event in Kelaniya yesterday (18), Field Marshal Fonseka stated that invitations were extended to Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana, himself and several other Deputy Ministers by the United Nations to accompany President Maithripala Sirisena as he journeyed to attend the 72nd General Assembly.
Expressing his contempt, the Field Marshal stated that over 200,000 soldiers have had to pay for the heinous acts committed by a handful of military persons who are under scrutiny by International bodies over alleged war-crimes committed during the civil war.
