Suspect detained at Pitigala Police station dies

A suspect detained at the Pitigala Police station has died earlier today (19), under unconfirmed circumstances, sources reveal.
Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has declared that stern action is to be taken against the Police Officers who were on duty at the Pitigala Police station in connection with the incident.
Accordingly, an investigation has been launched into the death of the suspect, a 42-year-old from Marakgoda.
The suspect was arrested in connection with an incident which had occurred as a result of a family dispute in Marakgoda, Pitigala. He had reportedly died inside a jail cell at the police station.
However, Pitigala Police claims that it is suspected that the death was the result of him committing suicide.
