Provincial Council Elections Amendment Bill passed in Parliament

The Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament with a two-thirds majority, a short while ago.
The bill was passed with 154 voting in favour and 43 against.
The Attorney General had informed the Speaker of Parliament that the Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Bill needs to be passed by a two-thirds majority of votes in Parliament.
This was announced by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya during the Parliament session, a short while ago.
Earlier today, Parliament was adjourned due to a tense situation as Joint Opposition members raised objections during the debate o the bill.
Parliament resumed after a party leaders meeting to seek AG advice on the Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Bill.
